Meet the area
Steele Creek covers the area south of Charlotte Douglas International Airport and west of Sugar Creek and I-77, running to Lake Wylie and the South Carolina line. It is named for the stream that rises near Steele Creek and Shopton roads and flows south into South Carolina; the name comes from the Scots-Irish Steele family who settled here. Today it mixes established neighborhoods with walkable Ayrsley, the RiverGate shopping area, Charlotte Premium Outlets, Carowinds and the lake-side master plans of The Palisades and The River District.
