Huntersville is one of the three “North Meck” towns (with Cornelius and Davidson) and home of Joe Gibbs Racing (NASCAR). It's a fast-growing lake-and-golf suburb with a small historic downtown along Main St / Old Statesville Rd / Gilead Rd — Town Hall, Veterans Park, Discovery Place Kids and Coffee Republic.

It's also home to the big walkable lifestyle district at Birkdale Village, and two lakes: Lake Norman on the northwest edge and Mountain Island Lake (Charlotte's water source) on the southwest border, where Latta Nature Preserve, the county's largest preserve, juts into the water. The town “is known recreationally as a lake community.”
